Did you know that the California state government is offering subsidies for the purchase of new electric bicycles (e-bikes)? This program, called the Clean Vehicle Assistance Program (CVAP), is administered by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in partnership with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and is designed to encourage the use of clean vehicles, including e-bikes, in an effort to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the state.

If you are considering purchasing a new e-bike, you may be eligible for a subsidy through the CVAP. To be eligible, the e-bike must be a new e-bike powered by an electric motor with a maximum power output of 750 watts or less and be used for transportation purposes. The amount of the subsidy varies depending on the specific e-bike purchased and the income of the purchaser, with some eligible e-bikes receiving a subsidy of up to $1,500.

To apply for the subsidy, individuals must complete an application and provide proof of income, proof of residency in California, and proof of purchase of the e-bike. Applications can be submitted online or in person at a participating dealership.

E-bikes are a great alternative to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, as they produce zero emissions and require less energy to operate. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity to save on the purchase of a new e-bike, we encourage you to visit the California DMV website for more information about the CVAP and how to apply for a subsidy. You can also feel free to contact us for assistance with the application process.

Who will qualify for the California e-bike incentive program?

To be eligible for the e-bike subsidy through the California Clean Vehicle Assistance Program (CVAP), individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: The applicant must be a resident of California.
  • Income: The applicant must meet certain income eligibility requirements. The specific income limits depend on the size of the household and the location of the applicant within the state.
  • Vehicle: The e-bike must be a new e-bike powered by an electric motor with a maximum power output of 750 watts or less and be used for transportation purposes. The e-bike must also be purchased from a participating dealer.

To apply for the subsidy, individuals must complete an application and provide proof of income, proof of residency in California, and proof of purchase of the e-bike. Applications can be submitted online or in person at a participating dealership.

The availability of subsidies may be limited, and they are typically offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, it is recommended to apply for the subsidy as soon as possible if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.

What are Pit Viper Sunglasses for?

Pit Viper sunglasses are ideal for any outdoor sport that requires protection from UV rays, wind or debris. They can be seen on hiking trails, mountain bike trails, running and biking routes, cross country and downhill ski trails, and on boats driven by wake boarders, kayakers and fishermen. While they offer the optimal combination of style and performance, Pit Viper goggles stand out first and foremost for their look that never goes unnoticed. For this reason, Pit Viper eyewear crosses the boundaries of sport and performance, and has been embraced by trend-setting fans at festivals and outdoor parties.  They are truly designed for a wild and outgoing lifestyle.

Quality

Pit Viper lenses are made of 1.2 mm thick plastic or 2.2 mm thick polycarbonate. Both lens designs have a high impact rating. Pay attention to the lens material when choosing your Pit Viper sunglasses, because some models do not have polarized lenses. Pit Vipers are perfect for light conditions that involve a lot of water and snow. All Pit Vipers offer 100% UV protection. Pit Viper lenses have a Z87+ rating against impact, chemicals and dust.

Features

Pit Vipers sunglasses offer a wide variety of features. Most frames have three points of adjustment. The lightweight design has non-slip nose pads and rubber ear pads. Finally, the turbo adjustment system allows you to tilt the lens closer or farther from your face, making it more comfortable with a helmet.

The Originals and The Ellipticals offer polarized side-view. To prevent fogging, you can adjust the height of the glasses and their distance from the face. Grand Prix and The Intimidators have side shields (sometimes removable) to provide foolproof protection from wind and glare.

Quality

A Pit Viper reviewer says, “They performed near the level of much more expensive brands at every turn. For that reason alone we think these glasses are a great buy.” Founder Chuck Mumford has created a high-performance style of sunglasses. Pit Vipers match the traditional brands, but at a much cheaper price.

Value

Another reviewer noted, “They are close to the level of far more expensive brands. For that reason alone, we think these glasses are a great buy.” The brand’s founder, Chuck Mumford, has been able to create a very capable sunglass design. Pit Vipers match the traditional brands, but at a much lower price point.

FAQ

Do Pit Viper sunglasses float?

Pit Viper sunglasses do not float, but they are designed to stay on the surface of the water for several seconds. Some models, such as the Grand Prix Collection, have an extendable cord that allows you to hang them around your neck to prevent them from getting lost in the water.

How do you clean Pit Viper sunglasses?

To clean polarized sunglasses, first rinse them with warm water. Do not rinse with salt water. To remove fingerprints and smudges, use the Pit Viper cloth or another microfiber cloth designed for lenses. Do not use your shirt or other cloth to clean the sunglasses.

If warm water or a cloth doesn’t work, use a lens cleaner. The ideal cleaner should have a pH between 5.5 and 8 and should not contain alcohol.

CONCLUSION

By now you know the key models in the Pit Viper sunglasses collection. From the legendary Originals, to the Grand Prix or Ellipticals, and the new Intimidators, all Pit Viper sunglasses are as high performance as they are brimming with style. It’s up to you to choose the style that best suits your activities and of course your look. One thing’s for sure, Pit Viper can take you from your first marathon to a day of heli-skiing. You’ll also notice them on beaches and music festival stages. Nothing is too intense for Pit Viper glasses!

In San Diego, we are among the privileged few when it comes to Winter weather. Even though we don’t see snow, heavy rain, or temperatures that rival our neighbors to the North and to the East, that doesn’t mean that we get to be entirely slack when it comes to caring for our E-bike or Onewheel batteries.

Shorter days and colder weather may discourage us from riding as much as we did in the warmer months, or we may bundle up, shrug it off, and soldier on. No matter which type of winter rider you are, one thing is certain and important – proper battery care.

Cold weather will decrease the lifespan of your battery because it will require charging more often. Lithium-ion batteries have a certain number of charging cycles before they are no longer usable. Thus, how you store your batteries when you aren’t using them is important.

For Your E-Bike

To preserve the life of your battery, you don’t want it to get too hot or too cold. The ideal temperature for a lithium ion battery is between 42°-69°F (5°C-20°C). Thankfully most bikes – like our Coastal Cruisers—are designed with an easily removable battery, meaning you can easily bring your battery out of the cold, and don’t have to keep it with the bike!

Planning on storing your battery for an extended period of time? Lithium ion batteries self-discharge, so make sure you are storing the battery at 40-50%. Over discharging the battery during storage causes an irreversible capacity loss.

And if you thought storing your battery fully charged was the best option – think again! Overcharging your battery is stressful on lithium ion batteries and can cause cathodes to decompose over time, meaning your battery may not be the same when you end your e-bike’s hibernation.

Over a long storage, check in on your battery! Slide the battery back into your bike to check that it still powers on and the charge is still at 40-50% – If you notice the battery decreasing, you can always top off the charge, and if there’s a problem, it’s best to catch it early.

 For Your Onewheel

Bring it inside after you ride!

Do not leave your Onewheel outside or in the trunk of your car, as long exposure to cold temperatures is not healthy for your board. If it does happen, you may have to bring your board inside and warm it up to 60°F (15°C) before riding.

If you have to shelve your board for a few months, make sure to keep the charge between 40-50%, and store it in a dry place between 50-60°F (10-15°C). Check your board monthly to ensure your battery is still between 40-50%.

 Takeaways

Temperatures outside of the ideal range of ~42°F~69°F (5°C-20°C) will reduce the battery storage life as the battery self-discharges. This means you will get less miles per ride out of your bike or Onewheel per charge. Proper battery care is essential to protecting your investment and maximizing enjoyment from your bike or board!

Follow these tips, and your batteries will survive the winter and into warmer days!
